Carol Doane elected regional vice-president of national Doane association

July 28, 2012 Celebrities, Local, National Comments
Carol Doane to serve as Regional Vice-President of national association.

Carol Doane, of Vancouver, Washington was elected Regional Vice-President of The Doane Family Association of America, Inc. with oversight over three states Oregon, Washington and Idaho. The 965 member nonprofit, with members on three continents, was organized to create interest in the history and welfare of the descendants of English born Deacon John Doane.

The election was held the end of July during the association’s national session in Plymouth Massachusetts, a historic site for the Doane Family. In 1630 family founder Deacon John Doane landed in Plymouth to join Miles Standish and other pilgrims in the pursuit of new opportunities. Deacon John Doane became one of the principal men in the affairs of the Plymouth Colony.

The national association also manages the family’s foundation which funds college scholarships for descendants of Deacon John Doane. Scholarships are also available for students attending Doane College in Crete, Nebraska – one of the top 50 Midwestern colleges as ranked by Forbes.com.

“Education is highly valued by the Doane family,” said Carol Doane, a cum laude graduate of Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. “In the Midwest and Eastern United States Doanes have built colleges, college libraries, administration buildings and funded countless college educations. I’d like to see that same spirit on the West Coast.”

Carol Doane has had leadership roles in two media companies, and is currently a business and social media consultant. She was featured in a short documentary by Chris Martin Studios as a 2012 Innovator of Vancouver, and was a 2010 top finalist in the Pacific Northwest Social Media Awards (SoMe) for a campaign she created and implemented for Southwest Washington nonprofit.

The Doane Family Association of America, Inc. has met biennially for the past 104 years. It welcomes those with surnames of Doane, Doan, Done, Donne, variations thereof, their spouses and descendants – as well as anyone interested in the family’s history which encompasses the notorious Doan Outlaws of Bucks County Pennsylvania which were featured on a segment of PBS’s History Detectives.

The next national reunion, which will feature historic tours, research and history presentations, will be held July 2014 in Michigan. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend.
